The University community is gearing up for a busy summer as Campus Planning, Design and Construction (CPDC) prepares for a series of construction projects. Vice president and chief campus facilities officer, Pete Sala, announced that a virtual information session will be held to discuss the upcoming summer projects. Sala emphasized the importance of keeping the community informed, stating, "We want to ensure that everyone is aware of the construction projects that will be taking place on campus."
The information session, scheduled for Thursday, May 2, at 4 p.m., will cover a wide range of projects that are set to enhance various aspects of campus life. CPDC will provide detailed insights into each project, including the Stadium Phase 2 reseating, the Esports Gaming Facility at the Schine Student Center, and the construction of a new recreation field on South Campus. Sala highlighted the significance of these projects in improving the student experience, stating, "These projects will not only enhance our campus facilities but also provide students with state-of-the-art amenities."
One of the key projects mentioned is the Lambreth Lane School of Architecture Retrofit, which aims to demonstrate cost-effective ways to retrofit multifamily housing in cold climates. Sala noted the collaborative effort behind this project, stating, "Led by faculty members at the School of Architecture and supported by a grant from the Department of Energy, this project showcases our commitment to sustainable initiatives."
In addition to the construction projects, the University is also focusing on strategic housing plans, STEM facility renewal, and academic space improvements. Sala emphasized the importance of these initiatives in supporting academic excellence, stating, "We are dedicated to providing students and faculty with modern, innovative spaces that foster learning and research."
As the construction projects get underway, the University community is reminded to stay alert in work areas, follow construction signage, and adhere to pedestrian signs. For any construction-related inquiries, individuals are encouraged to contact CPDC at cpdc@syr.edu. Parking concerns can be directed to Parking and Transportation Services at 315.443.4652, while questions regarding accessibility can be addressed to the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at 315.443.6162 or ADA@syr.edu.
The University community is urged to stay informed about the summer construction projects and to actively participate in ensuring a smooth transition during the construction period.
