Syracuse University Libraries' Blackstone LaunchPad recently announced the winners of its fourth annual Afropreneurship Celebration and Business Competition. The event took place on February 7 at Bird Library, recognizing several student teams for their innovative business ideas.
The competition awarded $1,500 to Olutosin Alabi, a graduate student from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, for founding Diabetech. Another $1,500 was given to a team from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications comprising Anthony H. Smith Jr., Bryson Carter, Asha Breedlove, and Stacey Collier for their venture HBeatzCU.
Sydney Moore from the Whitman School received $1,000 for her startup Thrive Insights. Similarly, Lindy Truitt from the College of Visual and Performing Arts and Anjaneya Padwal from the School of Information Studies were awarded $1,000 for Safe Sip.
Other recipients included Tony Goncalves and Armani Isonguyo from the College of Engineering and Computer Science with their project GymIn; Jasmine Mayers from Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs with Pressed; Elizabeth Paulin from the College of Arts and Sciences with Paulin Capital; Swathi Jacob from Whitman School; and Maven Kavan from Visual and Performing Arts.
The competition highlighted entrepreneurial talent among students at Syracuse University.
