Carla Freedman ends term as U.S. attorney for Northern District of New York

Carla B. Freedman has concluded her service as United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York, effective immediately. Ms. Freedman was appointed to the position on October 8, 2021. Before serving as U.S. Attorney, she worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Syracuse from 2007 until 2021, holding positions such as Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney and Narcotics Chief from February 2018 to 2021 and Deputy Narcotics Chief from 2016 to 2018.

Reflecting on her tenure, Ms. Freedman remarked: “For over 17 years, I have had the honor and privilege of working at the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York, first as an Assistant United States Attorney, and for the past three years, leading the office as the United States Attorney. During my tenure I have had the good fortune to work with some of the finest public servants in my office as well as with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners. I could not be more proud of the work and accomplishments we have achieved in the pursuit of justice, always with integrity and commitment to the rule of law.”

With Ms. Freedman's departure, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Hanlon has assumed the role of Acting United States Attorney.
