Syracuse University Libraries has announced a series of graduate research roundtable events for the Spring 2025 semester. These events, co-sponsored by the Libraries and the Graduate Student Organization, are open to all Syracuse University students, faculty, and staff. Registration is required for participation.
The series will begin with "The Misappropriation and Misrepresentation of Research: Strategies for Facing a Growing and Problematic Trend" on Thursday, February 27, from 5-6:30 p.m. in Bird Library, Room 114. This session will be presented by Winn Wasson, a social science librarian.
On Wednesday, March 5, an online session titled "News and Newspaper Databases" will be held from 5:30-7 p.m., presented by Michael Pasqualoni, librarian for the Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Another event in Bird Library's Room 114 is scheduled for Monday, March 17. João Paulo Oliveira Marum from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will present "Virtual Reality: How Can ECS Help or Kickstart Your Research?" from 5-6:30 p.m.
"Preprints and SURFACE: The What, Why and Where" will take place on Monday, March 24 from 5-6:30 p.m., also in Bird Library's Room 114. Presenters include Dylan Mohr, an open scholarship librarian, and Grace Swinnerton from IVMF research and digital projects.
A session aimed at non-law students titled "Law Research for the Non-Law Students" is set for Tuesday, March 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., again in Bird Library's Room 114. It will be led by Christine Demetros from the College of Law Library alongside Casey Orr from Syracuse University Libraries.
On Wednesday, April 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., a panel discussion on "Book Publishing Tips, How To Choose A Press & How To Get Noticed" will occur in Bird Library's Room 114. Panelists include Dimitar Gueorguiev from Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs; David Oh from Newhouse School of Public Communications; Cynthia Pope from the College of Arts and Sciences.
The final event titled "Using AI for Research: Considerations & Guidance" is scheduled online via Zoom on Thursday, April 10 from 6:30-7:45 p.m., featuring Juan Denzer and John Stawarz as presenters.
