Merit scholarships and faculty fellowships are among the key initiatives supported by the Whitman Leadership Circle (WLC), a new philanthropic society launched by the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The WLC aims to transform the educational experience through community support.

The initiative offers alumni, parents, and friends a chance to contribute directly to Whitman with multi-year leadership commitments. In return, members receive personalized experiences, including recognition, communication from the dean, event invitations, unique gifts, and opportunities for interaction with students and faculty.

“The launch of the Whitman Leadership Circle coincides with an exciting transformational time in our history,” said Alex McKelvie, interim dean of the Whitman School. “The energy around the Whitman School is palpable as we have seen our rankings reach the highest level in over 15 years.”

The WLC's introduction follows a restructuring of Whitman's advancement team led by Assistant Dean Michael Paulus. The aim was to invigorate support for the school through new strategies targeting student experience enhancement, faculty support, and learning environment improvements.

Commitments start at $25,000 or more over five years and can be directed to various funds within Whitman. The program features six commitment levels up to $1 million or more.

“As I have had the opportunity to meet with more alumni...I am struck by the important role the Whitman School has played in their lives,” said Paulus. “The goal of the WLC is to harness that value into providing outstanding programs.”

To date, 70 donors have joined WLC, raising over $4.7 million during its silent phase launch.

“Our goal for the future is to build a storied legacy,” said J. Michael Haynie, vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and innovation and executive dean of Whitman School. “Our objective is bold...the Whitman Leadership Circle is a vital component to that success.”
