Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has announced a call for proposals to acquire and redevelop the former Syracuse Fire Station 7, located on the city's east side. The property at 1039 E. Fayette Street, which ceased operations as a fire station in 2013, includes a two-story structure on an 8,712 square foot site.

The Request for Proposals (RFP) encourages innovative and inclusive development strategies for the site on University Hill's northern edge. The City aims to reintegrate the property into the city tax roll, create permanent jobs, and add housing units.

“The old Station 7 has been dormant for more than a decade. Working with the Syracuse Fire Department to ensure the community’s long-term needs are covered, we’ve determined there is a higher and better use for this site for the neighborhood and the people of the city,” said Mayor Walsh. “I look forward to seeing what opportunities are possible through this request for proposals.”

Located near East Genesee Street in a new Community Grid corridor following Interstate 81 viaduct removal, the RFP outlines expectations for dense and attractive redevelopment compatible with its vibrant surroundings.

Inquiries about this RFP are due by March 27, with proposal submissions required by April 24 at 2:30 p.m. Details can be found online under Active Bids – City of Syracuse.

Additionally, Onondaga County and Syracuse jointly issued an RFP on January 27th for acquiring and redeveloping the Public Safety Building Complex at 511 S. State Street. This complex currently houses both fire and police departments but will relocate to a new public safety campus on the West Side.

The PSB complex features a 79,048 square foot office tower alongside a vacant former corrections facility spanning 72,182 square feet. Submissions for this RFP are due by March 10 at 3 p.m., with further information available online under Active Bids – City of Syracuse.
