Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh is set to deliver the 2025 State of the City address on January 16 at 5:30 p.m. The event will take place at Grant Middle School's historic auditorium, located on the city's northside. This marks Mayor Walsh's eighth and final address, having previously delivered speeches from each of Syracuse's four quadrants.

The address will cover major accomplishments from the past year and outline future plans. Mayor Walsh will discuss school facility renovations under the first two phases of the Joint School Construction Board (JSCB), which he chairs. He will also preview the $400 million third phase currently in planning. Grant Middle School was renovated as part of JSCB's second phase, completed in 2021.

"Some once thought Syracuse’s best days were behind us, but with a firm commitment to collaboration we have proven the prospects for our region are rising once again," said Mayor Walsh. "With Syracuse poised to meet the opportunities of the New Economy, we must ensure our children are ready to fill new jobs and play an active role in the future. Education is the key that unlocks the boundless potential within every young person, proving that the sky is not just the limit but a gateway to endless possibilities."

The State of the City address serves as an annual report from the mayor to the Common Council, as required by city charter. Previous addresses by Mayor Walsh have been held at various locations including PSLA at Fowler High School, Redhouse Arts Center, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Salt City Market, JMA Wireless, Corcoran High School, and City Center.

The event will be broadcast on WCNY Public Broadcasting Channel 24.
