Syracuse University football team prepares for Holiday Bowl against Washington State

Syracuse University's football team is set to compete in the Holiday Bowl against Washington State. This marks the Orange's third consecutive bowl appearance, a feat not achieved since their five-season streak from 1995 to 1999.

Syracuse, with a record of 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will face the Washington State Cougars, who hold an 8-4 record. The game is scheduled for December 27 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, with a kickoff time of 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST. It will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

This year's appearance marks Syracuse's 29th bowl game in program history. The team holds a historical bowl record of 16 wins, 11 losses, and one tie. Notably, this will be their first participation in the Holiday Bowl.

Under first-year head coach Fran Brown, Syracuse achieved a successful season with nine wins, tying for the most regular-season victories by a first-year head coach in school history. They are ranked No. 21 by College Football Playoff rankings, No. 22 by Associated Press polls, and No. 25 by USA Today Coaches Polls.

The Orange concluded their regular season with a notable victory over Miami on November 30 inside the JMA Wireless Dome, overcoming a significant deficit to win against a top-10 ranked opponent for the first time since 2017.

A victory in the upcoming Holiday Bowl would mark Syracuse's tenth win of the year and their third ten-win season since the year 2000.

Historically, Syracuse has faced Washington State once before in 1979 at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, New York—home to NFL's Buffalo Bills—where they secured a decisive win with a score of 52-25.
