Syracuse University announces winter break schedule including Orange Appreciation Days

Syracuse University has announced its holiday schedule and Orange Appreciation Days for the upcoming winter break. The university will close from 5 p.m. on Friday, December 20, and will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Regular holidays include December 25 and January 1, with additional bonus days on December 24 and 31. The designated paid Orange Appreciation Days are December 23, 26, 27, and 30.

Essential services such as the Department of Public Safety and Facilities Services will remain operational during this period.

Faculty and staff who need building access during the break should contact their building coordinator by December 12. Buildings will be accessible using SU I.D. cards even when locked. Building temperatures will be reduced to 60 degrees unless other arrangements are made.

Requests for temperature or lighting adjustments can be submitted by deans, directors, or department heads through the Maximo Maintenance system by December 12. These requests require approval from either the vice president and chief facilities officer or the provost.

Certain buildings are excluded from the reduced occupancy schedule and will maintain normal settings:

- Heroy Geology Laboratory

- Bowne Hall – Fourth Floor

- Lyman Hall – Fourth Floor

- Sims Hall – Department of Public Safety

- Center for Science and Technology

- Bird Library (operating hours available online)

- Life Sciences Complex

- Link Hall

- Physics Building

- Ensley Athletic Center

- South Campus Library Facility

- Lally Complex

- Carmelo Anthony Center

- Tennity Ice Rink

- Crouse Hinds Hall
