The City of Syracuse Department of Parks & Recreation has announced the completion of the restoration work on the iconic fountain located in Franklin Square. The fountain, which is a well-known landmark in Syracuse, was reinstalled at its original location at the corner of Plum and Solar Streets on October 24 after being absent for 12 months.

Originally installed in the early 1990s, the fountain has been a significant feature of Syracuse's landscape, drawing both residents and visitors over the years. Due to considerable wear and tear, a comprehensive restoration was necessary to maintain its appeal and functionality.

Specialists from Robinson Iron were responsible for dismantling and transporting the fountain to Alexander City, Alabama last October. In Alabama, it underwent extensive restorative work that included stripping it down to bare metal, making repairs, painting it, and applying protective coatings to prevent corrosion. Additionally, a new granite base was installed to address previous issues with leaks. The project was financed through City Capital Improvement Program funds amounting to $77,360.

Those interested in reserving Franklin Square for events during the 2025 permitting season can submit requests online. The square is available for permits from April 15 through October 31 as space allows.
