The Syracuse Department of Public Works (DPW) announced that replacement blue bins will no longer be available in the City of Syracuse. This decision aligns with the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency’s (OCRRA) discontinuation of distributing new blue bins throughout Onondaga County.

To replace the blue bins, DPW will distribute new 96-gallon covered recycling carts to residents, with delivery scheduled from October 7 through October 19. The new recycling collection system aims to build on the trash carts implemented in 2023, enhancing service to residents, creating safer conditions for sanitation workers, and reducing litter. Additionally, recycling carts have been shown to reduce trash disposal by increasing participation in recycling programs. City households will receive more information about the distribution of these recycling carts in the coming weeks.

Until the new carts arrive, residents without a blue bin are advised to use alternative methods for recycling. Additional information about the new recycling carts and interim recycling options can be found on the City’s website at syr.gov/carts or by calling Cityline at (315) 448-CITY (2489).
