The School of Information Studies (iSchool) has achieved a significant milestone by securing over 100 years of accreditation from the American Library Association (ALA). The accreditation, recently renewed through 2030, highlights the school's commitment to maintaining high educational standards.
"This reaccreditation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff, who have created a high-quality program for our students," expressed iSchool Dean Andrew Sears. "We are proud of the iSchool’s enduring success, which is evident in the impressive work our students and alumni do each day."
Since the late 1920s, the iSchool has held ALA accreditation, ensuring that its graduates receive the necessary degree and training for their profession. This accreditation also serves as a foundation for various national rankings for the iSchool.
According to LIS Program Director and Professor Megan Oakleaf, "ALA accreditation is an affirmation that the library and information science program is engaging in continuous strategic planning and improvement, has a strong and relevant curriculum, dedicated full-time and adjunct faculty, and students who are supported throughout their educational journeys. The LIS program will continue to pursue excellence in the years to come."
Oakleaf also extended gratitude to the Committee on Accreditation at the American Library Association, acknowledging their efforts in ensuring that all LIS programs cater to students and the broader professional community.
