Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay and members of the Assembly Minority Conference marked National Vietnam War Veterans Day by honoring Vietnam veterans at the New York State Capitol. The event, held on Wednesday, included a special tribute to Doug Bower, a distinguished Vietnam veteran and retired Navy Seabee who served in Vietnam in 1971. Bower, who has a rich history of service, including a tenure as national vice commander for the Navy's construction force, participated in the recognition ceremony.

During the celebration, veterans were invited to a luncheon and given a tour of the Capitol. The event culminated in a formal recognition on the Assembly Floor, where the Assembly passed a resolution declaring March 29, 2025, as Vietnam Veterans Day in New York. This gesture was intended to honor the bravery and sacrifice of veterans who defended the nation's freedoms.

Bower, who now resides in Hannibal, dedicates his efforts to renovating and volunteering at the New Haven American Legion, continuing his commitment to service. The recognition day served as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Vietnam veterans.
