The University community is invited to participate in the Community Review Board (CRB) by attending an open forum scheduled for April 18. The CRB reviews appeals of civilian complaints about the conduct of Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers, evaluates current and future DPS policies, procedures, and training, and oversees key community-facing functions of DPS. The board also produces an annual report with findings and recommendations.

The CRB comprises 11 members with different roles at the University and currently seeks new participants. Open positions include two undergraduate students, one graduate student, one staff member, two faculty members, and one administrator.

Applications to join the CRB are due by April 15. Undergraduate students should submit their applications to Student Association President German Novilas. Graduate students need to contact Graduate Student Organization President Daniel J. Kimmel. Staff applications go to Andrew Gordon from the Office of Human Resources. Faculty applicants should reach out to Doug Yung of the University Senate. Chancellor Kent Syverud will select the administrator, with applications submitted to Souher Cosselman in the Office of the Chancellor.

The CRB will hold its annual spring open forum on April 18 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in 411 MacNaughton Hall. At the event, members will discuss their work, and attendees can voice their experiences or inquire about DPS and campus policing matters. The forum will also be available via Zoom, with American Sign Language (ASL) and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services provided. For additional accommodations, contact crb@syr.edu.

New CRB members will be informed of their selection by April 29.
