The Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics is set to host Patrick Wilson, Ph.D., RDN, as the featured speaker for the Ninth Annual Ann Selkowitz Litt Distinguished Speaker Series. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 1, at 5:30 p.m. in White Hall, Falk College. It is open to the public without charge.
Wilson serves as an associate professor of exercise science at Old Dominion University and directs the Human Performance Laboratory there. He has authored 80 peer-reviewed scientific articles focusing on nutrition, exercise performance, and health.
In 2020, Wilson published a book titled “The Athlete’s Gut: The Inside Science of Digestion, Nutrition, and Stomach Distress.” This work provides insights into gut functioning for athletes and offers guidance on managing gastrointestinal issues to enhance performance.
Lynn Brann, chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at Falk College, stated: “We are excited to have Dr. Wilson share his expertise in gut health and athlete performance, which is a novel topic for the Ann Selkowitz Litt Distinguished Speaker Series.”
Wilson's research delves into the causes of gut problems in athletes and explores interventions for these issues. His studies also examine hydration biomarkers used in sports.
A recognized authority in sport nutrition, Wilson has been interviewed by various news outlets such as The New York Times and Runner’s World. Outside his professional endeavors, he is an avid distance runner who applies his research findings to improve his own athletic performance.
Wilson holds a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota with additional training in public health and epidemiology. He gained experience at Mayo Clinic before completing his doctorate.
For those interested in attending Wilson’s lecture either in person or virtually, registration details are available through Amy Edmond-Drapas via email or phone.
The Ann Selkowitz Litt Distinguished Speaker Series was established at Syracuse University through a donation from the Ann S. Litt Foundation Inc., honoring Ann Selkowitz Litt '75 who was known for her contributions to nutrition education.
