Eight graduate students are set to receive the Graduate Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Work at a ceremony hosted by the Graduate School on March 5. The event will feature presentations from the awardees about their research or creative work, and is open to the campus community.

The recipients were chosen by members of the Graduate Faculty Council from nearly 60 applicants across the University. This year's honorees include Caroline Charles from the College of Arts and Sciences for her work titled “Black Family Photography in Syracuse: Assembling a Community Collection with Family Photo-Sharing” and Bramsh Khan from Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs for “Gendered Politics of Infrastructure Violence in Balochistan, Pakistan.”

Other awardees are Natalie Petryk, Frank Sicong Chen, Lily Holloway, Benjamin Valen, Jersey Cosantino, and Yasmine Tiana Goring. Their projects range from bioengineering solutions to creative writing explorations.

Peter Vanable, dean of the Graduate School, remarked on the impressive nature of this year's portfolios: “The depth and breadth of our graduate students’ portfolios are truly impressive. We are proud to honor them, and look forward to hearing more about their work during their presentations at the awards ceremony.”

In addition to recognition certificates, each honoree will receive a $500 award. Students who earned honorable mentions include Azadeh Ghanizadeh, Pardha Sourya Nayani, Tevvon Hines, Elina Ruiqi Sun, and Tosin Alabi.

The ceremony will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in 312 Lyman Hall with a reception following. For further details, Holly Johnson can be contacted at hjohns02@syr.edu.
