CBS News and Stations is collaborating with the Newhouse School to address the challenges of misinformation and disinformation. This partnership will begin with two days of programming starting on January 30, featuring a panel discussion titled "An Eye on Misinformation and Disinformation." CBS News' senior White House correspondent Weijia Jiang, congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane, reporter Ali Bauman, and executive editor Rhona Tarrant are among those scheduled to participate.

The collaboration aims to provide Newhouse students with opportunities to engage with alumni and learn from industry leaders. Plans include content creation in partnership with CBS News and student interactions with journalists in various cities including New York and Washington, D.C.

Laurie Orlando, SVP of Talent Strategy and Development at CBS News and Stations, stated: “We are thrilled to work with Newhouse’s talented students and faculty, leveraging this relationship to foster meaningful discussions and prepare future journalists to navigate the complexities of reporting locally, nationally and globally.”

Newhouse Dean Mark J. Lodato emphasized the significance of this collaboration as the school celebrates its 60th anniversary. “This is a tremendous opportunity for Newhouse students to learn from some of the best reporters, editors and producers in the country," he said. "On behalf of Syracuse University, let me express our deep gratitude to the CBS News and Stations team for sharing their time and insights about these critical topics.”

Regina Luttrell, senior associate dean at Newhouse, along with research professor Jason Davis will assist during a masterclass designed to help students understand tools for analyzing misinformation. The session will feature case studies, real-world examples, and practical techniques for combating misinformation.

Twenty-five selected Newhouse students will participate in this masterclass following an application process open to juniors, seniors or graduate students. Additionally, CBS News team members will review student reels during their visit.
