Syracuse University is keeping a close watch on weather conditions due to the Winter Weather Advisory currently in effect. The university is reviewing the latest data from the National Weather Service and consulting with an independent meteorologist.
At present, Syracuse University plans to remain open and operational. The institution acknowledges that while it rarely closes for bad weather, individuals must assess travel risks personally. Employees are advised to exercise caution and use their judgment when commuting. Faculty and staff with safety concerns should reach out to their department chair or supervisor.
Should there be any changes in the university's operating status, announcements will be made through the emergency broadcast notification system under "SU WEATHER ALERT." Individuals are reminded to keep their Orange Alert settings updated in MySlice.
"SU WEATHER ALERT" updates will be communicated via text message; displayed as a crawl on campus TV monitors and websites; posted on X at @SyracuseUNews and @SyracuseDPS; shared on Facebook at @SyracuseUniversityNews and @SyracuseDPS; published on news.syr.edu and Syracuse.edu; broadcasted via WAER-FM/88.3, Syracuse University's public radio station, along with other local media outlets.
The Internal Communications and Media Relations teams at Syracuse University are solely responsible for communicating closures, schedule changes, or class delays to both news media and the campus community.
