A new exhibition titled "Libro de Artista" is currently on display at Syracuse University, marking the first time the Argentine National Museum's Artist Book Collection has been shown in the United States. The exhibition features over 60 pieces from the museum's collection and is hosted at the Sue and Leo Genet Gallery within the Nancy Cantor Warehouse Building. It will run until November 22, with free admission for all visitors.

The exhibition is a collaborative effort between Syracuse University's Punto de Contacto-Point of Contact (POC) gallery, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Argentina (MNBA), and the university’s museum studies master’s degree program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Teresita Paniagua, executive director of Syracuse University's Office of Cultural Engagement for the Hispanic Community, expressed her excitement about this collaboration: “It is an honor to partner with MNBA in its first showing of the ‘Libro de Artista’ collection in the United States.”

The exhibit includes works by Latin American artists such as Diana Dowek, Luis Felipe Noé, Lucrecia Orloff, Jacques Bedel, Daniel García, Miguel Harte, Carolina Antoniadis, Marcos López, and Marcia Schvartz. A notable addition to this collection is a piece co-authored by Argentine artists Pedro Roth and late Syracuse University professor Pedro Cuperman.

Andrés Duprat, director of MNBA, explained that artist books are unique because they reveal explorations and intentions that might not be evident in other art forms. He stated: “The artist book or Libro de Artista is generally not considered a work of art in itself but for us it holds great interest because it is in artist books where explorations...are revealed.”

Matias Roth serves as both curator for this exhibition and a member of Point of Contact's board. He noted his appreciation for having these works preserved within Argentina’s National Art Collection: “As a member of Point of Contact board...I greatly appreciate that this work will be preserved in Argentina’s National Art Collection.”
