The University of Syracuse has launched its annual employee giving campaign, encouraging faculty and staff to contribute to the United Way of Central New York. This initiative supports 73 human service programs and projects at 34 nonprofit partners in the region.
Kirsten Elleby, deputy athletics director and senior woman administrator, co-chairs the campaign. She highlights the impact of donations: "The United Way makes a direct impact on people through supporting a variety of amazing initiatives and programs within our community. You will treasure the feeling when you know your dollar helped make a profound difference in someone’s life, perhaps even a family member or a friend in need."
Employees are invited to pledge donations via MySlice, with options for one-time or recurring payroll deductions. Retirees can also participate by contacting campaign coordinator Jake Losowski. A video featuring Elleby and co-chair Ryan Williams underscores the importance of contributions.
Williams, vice president of enrollment services, emphasizes the university's role: “Syracuse University is crucial to the vitality of the broad Syracuse community. When we partner with the United Way of Central New York, we ensure that services and supports are made available to community members who need them.”
Elleby calls for collective effort: “I challenge us to come together and make this year the best turnout ever for the Syracuse University campaign—to not only reach our monetary goals but more importantly the goals of making our community stronger, prouder and more united than ever before.”
Various departments have organized fundraising activities such as bake sales and raffles. Kristin Jeter from Syracuse University Libraries notes that funds are used effectively: “This campaign touches so many different aspects of peoples’ lives... It’s how can we take these funds and find the most important or critical place to help.”
Charlotte Stahrr from the College of Professional Studies encourages participation: “You don’t miss one or two dollars a week coming out of your paycheck. And that little bit can help make a big difference.”
The campaign runs until December 13th, aiming to unite university employees in support of their community.
