Syracuse University Ambulance (SUA) is set to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for students, faculty, and staff. The upcoming session is scheduled for Thursday, November 7, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in 020 Lyman Hall.
The training will follow the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Basic Life Support-Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) guidelines. Participants will learn adult, child, and infant CPR techniques along with automated external defibrillator (AED) usage. Successful attendees will receive CPR certification at the BLS-HCP level, valid for two years.
Paul Smyth, manager of emergency medical services with Health and Wellness Services at the Barnes Center at The Arch, stated: “In this class, you will review and gain the knowledge of the five links of the AHA chain of survival. With this knowledge, you will be ready to recognize and assist in the event of a cardiac emergency either on or off campus.”
The course costs $50 per person and includes certification and a pocket mask. Payment can be made by check or interdepartmental order during the class.
To enroll in the training session, interested individuals should contact Smyth via email at pjsmyth@syr.edu. Each session accommodates up to eight participants. Additionally, private classes can be arranged for groups or departments by contacting Smyth.
