Students from the College of Visual and Performing Arts have been recognized for their innovative design solutions at the Creative Conscience Awards. This global competition encourages creative thinking to address social and environmental challenges.

Under the guidance of Associate Professor Jody Nyboer, students formed two teams to develop their projects as part of a course in Spring 2024. The awards were announced in late September.

Surina Archey, Milena Andrade, and Haley Meyer received a silver award in product and structural design for their project "Re-Leaf," which addresses eco-anxiety. The project features eco-friendly packaging with resources for climate action and education contained within four capsules. These include a calendar of local events, information on sustainable companies, anti-anxiety practices, and positive climate news.

Another team comprising Qizhi Fang, Valeria Chavez, Peter Zejmis, and Jiamin Chen was highly commended in service design. They developed a water bottle that helps individuals experiencing homelessness find drinkable water by changing color based on proximity to water sources. This project was created in collaboration with Hydro Flask.

The winning designs are displayed online, and participants are invited to join the Creative Conscience Community.
