Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced a Vision Zero public meeting to gather feedback and share information on the development of a draft Action Plan for the comprehensive traffic safety initiative. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a brief presentation at 6 p.m. at the Salt City Market Community Room.

Mayor Walsh announced a commitment to become a Vision Zero city in 2023. The goal of the Vision Zero program is to achieve zero fatalities and serious injuries from traffic crashes. The Action Plan will build on ongoing initiatives such as the Municipal Sidewalk Program (MSP), Supplemental Sidewalk Snow Removal Program, automated enforcement in school zones (speed, red light, and bus stop arm cameras), bicycle infrastructure, traffic calming (speed humps), signal updates, and access management. The Action Plan seeks to prioritize safety by calming traffic and centering the needs of the most vulnerable transportation network users.

Residents can also attend additional pop-up events listed below to learn more about the initiative and share their feedback with the team.
