Congress allocates $100 million for Mohawk River infrastructure

MOHAWK VALLEY — Today, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22) announced that $100,000,000 to support the Mohawk River and its tributaries was included in the Water Resources Development Act of 2024, which passed on the House Floor with a bipartisan majority last night.

The allocation will go towards the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure, such as stormwater management, surface water resource protection, and environmental restoration efforts.

Impacted counties are Madison, Oneida, Albany, Delaware, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, Montgomery, Otsego, Saratoga, Schoharie, and Schenectady.

“We are working across the aisle and across New York to fight for our great state’s environment and for everyone who calls New York home. We owe it to the next generation to steward our resources well, and this funding will help local leaders to do just that. I’m thankful to Congresswoman Stefanik and Congressman Tonko for joining me to advance this shared priority.”

Rep. Williams advocated for this funding with Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21) and Rep. Paul Tonko (NY-20).

These funds will go towards stormwater management, surface water resource protection, environmental restoration, and more on the Mohawk River and its tributaries including in Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, Montgomery Otsego,and Schoharie counties in NY-21,” said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
