Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has appointed Jason Thomas to the position of Director of Analytics and Data Management. Thomas, who previously served as the City's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Data Analyst, will now oversee the City's data analytics portfolio and business insight products. Prior to his new role, Thomas played a crucial role in analyzing data for over sixty projects funded by the federal government's $123 million ARPA investment in Syracuse.
In his new capacity, Thomas will be responsible for implementing a citywide data infrastructure, writing data governance policies, and supervising the implementation of programs such as open data and surveillance technology oversight. Additionally, he will assist in the development and maintenance of various data products to enhance the City's processes and service delivery.
Thomas, who holds a Ph.D. and master's in political science from the University of Iowa, as well as bachelor's degrees in government and biology from the University of Texas, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. His work in developing the City's ARPA Dashboard and creating tools to improve data utilization for process enhancement highlights his commitment to innovation and efficiency within government operations.
