Syracuse, NY-  On June 6, 2023, at 5:00 a.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 center to a possible fire at 311 Putnam Street. Firefighters from Station 3, on Bellevue Ave., arrived on the scene less than three minutes later and found a vacant two-story structure with fire showing from the rear. A signal ‘99’ was transmitted, and firefighters went to work to contain the blaze.

Firefighters stretched hoses into the abandoned building and quickly stopped the fire that had already badly damaged a one-story addition on the back of the home. Crews also performed searches for any trapped victims. Although the home was known to be vacant, a person was reportedly seen leaving the structure after fire crews arrived. All searches were negative. There were no injuries reported to civilians or to fire personnel.

Syracuse Fire Investigators were on the scene, working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The home sustained fire, water, and smoke damage to the first floor and smoke and water damage throughout the structure. This was the third major fire in the City of Syracuse in a 12-hour period. Many of the firefighters at the scene had already spent hours on the scene of the two earlier fires on the North Side.

Thirty-nine fire personnel responded to this scene, including command and support staff. Syracuse Police, National Grid, and American Medical Response also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at Onondaga County 911, SPD, National Grid, and AMR.
