Syracuse, NY-  On June 5, 2023, at 8:52 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted to a reported house fire at the corner of Lemoyne Ave and Second North Street. Firefighters from Engine 18, normally stationed in The Valley section of the city, were the first to arrive moments later. They were met with bystanders waving them down and pointing to a house at 737 Lemoyne Ave, where they saw flames coming from two windows on the second floor. Engine 18 had been relocated to Station 2, on Lodi Street, due to multiple fire units still being on the scene of a large fire on East Division Street.

Firefighters from Engine 18, along with additional arriving companies fought their way through thick bushes that surrounded the house and dragged hoses inside to the second floor to extinguish the flames. Additional arriving firefighters stretched more hoses and began searches for any trapped victims. The sole occupant of the home was able to make it out prior to fire department arrival. They were evaluated by an ambulance on scene for smoke inhalation. No injuries were reported to firefighters, although several of the Fire Companies that fought the fire on E. Division St. also responded to this fire, making for an exhausting night for Firefighters.

The fire was brought under control and declared out in approximately thirty minutes. The house sustained fire, smoke, and water damage on the second floor, as well as smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the home. Syracuse Fire Investigators were on the scene working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

More than 50 fire personnel, from 8 different city fire stations responded to this fire, including command and support staff. Syracuse Police, National Grid, American Medical Response, and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at SPD, AMR, National Grid, and the Red Cross.
