SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry issued the following announcement on April 3.
Jordan Jessamy, a senior at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry has been honored with the 2020 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
The SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, the highest student honor in the SUNY system. Chancellor's Award honorees excel both in academic achievement and at least one of the following areas: leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement. This is the highest honor a student can receive from SUNY.
Jessamy, of New Milford, Connecticut, is majoring in environmental science major with a concentration in wetlands and watershed resources, and a minor in applied statistics.
He is a co-founder of ESF's Taking Root Student Peer Mentorship Program, president of the Roots and Pursuits Club; social media chair, digital content editor and lead photographer for The Knothole, the campus literary magazine; and past president of King's Court Diversity Group.
He served as an undergraduate teaching assistant for general biology and a tutor for general biology, a tour guide for ESF in the High School, a volunteer for A Tiny Home for Good Service Project and was an invited speaker for Ted X Style Talk hosted by ESF.
He has had internships at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York, and the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, in Chincoteague, Virginia.
