Syracuse University's VPA hosts M.F.A thesis exhibition 'Unforeseen' in three parts

The College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) at Syracuse University is set to showcase a three-part exhibition titled "Unforeseen" at its Warehouse Gallery. This exhibition features the thesis work of 32 Master of Fine Arts students from the School of Art and Department of Film and Media Arts.

The first segment of the exhibition will be open to the public from March 22-28, with an opening reception scheduled for March 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The gallery is located in the Nancy Cantor Warehouse on West Fayette Street in Syracuse.

According to a statement reflecting on the nature of creativity, French composer Pierre Boulez once said, “Creation exists only in the unforeseen made necessary.” This theme underpins the series, which will unfold over three separate exhibitions.

The artists participating in "Unforeseen Part I" include Kai Bason, Luca Higonnet Faithfull, Shokoofeh Jabbari, Monae Kyhara, Neil Mattern, Ryan Mitchell, Alexandria Morgan, Ashique Shahir, Lely Soy, Joseph H. Troxler, Nikou Zabihi, and Yuping Zeng.

"Unforeseen Part II" will run from April 5-11 with an opening reception on April 4. Artists featured in this segment are Jalal Ghias Beygi, Kirstin Dunlap, Flora Jiang, Rick Li, Tripty Tamang Pakhrin, Olivia Qi, Grace Schamowski, Emma Schwartz, KB Stallings and Yukang Tao.

The final part of the exhibition series "Unforeseen Part III" will take place from April 19-25. Its opening reception is planned for April 18. Exhibiting artists include Lottie Caiella, Marguerita Cruz-Urbanc, Cancan Jin Hanyu Shi Ruilin Shi Tong Su Kevin Wade Zhen Wang Jingya Zhang and Jingyang Zhou.

The Warehouse Gallery serves as a primary exhibition space for VPA's community including students faculty alumni and staff. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., Thursday from noon to 8 p.m., Friday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., or by appointment via email at warehousegallery@syr.edu for further details.
