Syracuse University Libraries has announced that it is now accepting course reserve requests from faculty for the Spring 2025 semester. Faculty members are encouraged to submit their requests by Friday, January 10, 2025, through the Libraries’ Course Reserve system to ensure materials are available to students on the first day of classes.

Requests submitted after the January 10 deadline will be processed in the order they are received but may not be available during the first week of classes. The reserves can include library materials, items to be purchased, or personal copies provided by faculty. This initiative aims to offer students affordable and accessible course materials.

For new items not currently in the collection, Syracuse University Libraries plans to purchase eBook versions when possible. This approach allows multiple students simultaneous access and easier availability of course materials. If a print copy is preferred, faculty should specify this in the notes section of the course reserve form. The acquisition of new physical items may take four to six weeks, and all such items will be housed at Bird Library. It is important to note that electronic articles from professional journals are not eligible for course reserves.

Faculty wishing to provide personal copies for reserves must also use the Libraries’ course reserve system. Those who prefer these copies be collected from their department offices should email reserves@syr.edu with details including faculty name, course number, and number of items or books for pickup.

Additionally, faculty should consider accessibility needs when compiling resources for reserve. Materials may need to be formatted for use with screen readers or text-to-speech software. Requests for accessible files can be made via the notes section on the course reserve form or by emailing reserve@syr.edu.

Further information about course reserves is available on the Libraries’ website.
