Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced Healthy Housing 101, an annual tour aimed at promoting safe and healthy housing conditions in the city. The event, organized by the Division of Code Enforcement, is scheduled for Friday, September 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 301 West Colvin Street.

Code Inspectors will guide attendees through a vacant home owned by the Greater Syracuse Land Bank. They will discuss the code enforcement process, address violations, and provide tips on maintaining safe and healthy homes. Key topics will include lead-based paint violations, exterior issues such as peeling paint and overgrowth, as well as interior problems related to heat, water, smoke detectors, and more.

The event is free and open to the community. Information tables featuring programs and resources from the Greater Syracuse Land Bank, Onondaga County, Home HeadQuarters, and the City of Syracuse will be available. City staff members from various departments including Central Permit Office, Zoning Administration, SYRCityline, Fire Prevention, Police, and Neighborhood and Business Development will be present to answer questions or concerns.

A rain date is set for Friday, September 20. To register for the event, visit goto.syr.gov/healthyhousing.
