The Syracuse University Department of Drama continues its 2023-24 season with “Touch(ed)”, a darkly comic drama penned by Tony Award-nominated playwright Bess Wohl (“Grand Horizons”).

Directed by Christine Albright-Tufts, the play will be showcased at the Loft Theatre in the Syracuse Stage/SU Drama Complex from April 5-14. Tickets are now on sale through the Syracuse Stage Box Office.

Set in a remote cabin in the woods, “Touch(ed)” tells the story of Kay, a middle school science teacher from New York City, who takes care of her sister recently discharged from a psychiatric facility. As Kay and her novelist boyfriend, Billy, attempt to facilitate her sister's recovery through traditional methods, unexpected challenges arise, prompting Kay to confront her own needs.

Albright-Tufts expressed her enthusiasm for the production, stating, "I’m so excited that our students have the opportunity to bring to life a play that deftly explores themes of mental health and suicide with thoughtfulness and care." She added, "The play manages to find joy in the darkness while honoring the struggles of those who face these illnesses."

Described as "savagely funny, unapologetically modern and surprisingly tender," Wohl’s “Touch(ed)” offers a poignant portrayal of navigating life, love, and loss amidst the complexities of modern-day anxieties.
