On April 8, the Syracuse University campus will be abuzz with activities to mark the rare occurrence of a total solar eclipse. The event, set to bring about approximately 90 seconds of darkness in the afternoon, has garnered excitement among the university community and locals alike.

The College of Arts and Sciences will be hosting an Eclipse Celebration, featuring various activities on the Shaw Quad from 1:30-4 p.m. Physics students will lead projects, demonstrations, and telescope viewings. Complimentary eclipse glasses and pinhole projectors will also be provided for attendees.

For those interested in a unique experience, the Barnes Center at The Arch and Hendricks Chapel will offer Solar Eclipse Sound Bathing and Drumming on the Quad from 2:30-4 p.m. The event includes a guided meditation, a viewing of the total solar eclipse, and a special celebration.

Students, faculty, and staff can head to the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics for a viewing party from 3-4 p.m., where eclipse glasses and snacks will be available. The College of Law will be distributing eclipse glasses during an admitted student event, while the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs will host an eclipse viewing party in the Lincoln Courtyard of Maxwell Hall.

The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) will hold a Solar Eclipse Festival from noon-4 p.m., offering tabling activities, food trucks, and free eclipse glasses. The Liverpool Public Library will also provide a Solar Eclipse Spectacular at Onondaga Lake Park, starting at 2 p.m.

Additionally, a Solar Party on Solar Street at the Syracuse Inner Harbor from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. will feature food trucks, live music, and free eclipse glasses for attendees to enjoy the celestial event.

With a range of activities and viewing opportunities planned across the Syracuse University campus, the upcoming total solar eclipse promises to be a memorable and educational experience for all involved.
