Syracuse University Libraries recently announced a new 'read and publish' open access agreement with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), aiming to enhance the dissemination of scholarly works by university-affiliated authors.

The agreement allows all Syracuse University researchers the opportunity to publish their work open access in all 57 RSC journals at no cost to them. This move is expected to broaden the impact of Syracuse University's scholarly contributions by making them freely accessible to a wider audience.

Open access publications enable the unrestricted use of scholarly works, eliminating most copyright and licensing restrictions. Through 'read and publish' agreements, authors associated with Syracuse University can make their work openly available in journals published by partnering organizations without incurring additional charges.

The Royal Society of Chemistry, known for its publications in core chemical sciences and related fields such as biology, biophysics, and medicine, offers a valuable platform for researchers to share their findings. Authors interested in leveraging this agreement can access more details in the Transformative Agreements and APC Coverage Research Guide.

Scott Warren, the Libraries’ senior associate dean for research excellence, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "The Royal Society of Chemistry is a venerable yet groundbreaking institution, so I’m thrilled they are the 11th publisher the Libraries have struck a ‘read and publish’ deal with to eliminate costly open access article fees for Syracuse University authors." He emphasized the significance of enabling SU authors to publish their research openly, aligning with the requirements of various funding bodies and reflecting the strategic goals of the Libraries.

This partnership exemplifies Syracuse University Libraries' commitment to facilitating open access to cutting-edge research and supporting the academic community in sharing knowledge with a global audience.
