Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:
An important update on new public health guidance for COVID-19 has been issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and adopted by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). According to the NYSDOH, individuals with COVID-19 can resume normal activities when certain conditions are met: "individuals can go back to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both of the following are true: symptoms are getting better overall, and they no longer have a fever without the use of fever-reducing medication."
In light of the new guidance, individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are no longer required to isolate for five days. Additionally, reporting a positive test result to the Barnes Center and Human Resources is no longer mandatory.
While isolation and vaccination are no longer compulsory, it is essential to note that COVID-19 is still prevalent and can cause varying degrees of illness. The community is encouraged to consider getting vaccinated against common communicable illnesses, including COVID-19, and to monitor for COVID-like symptoms. If concerned, students can contact the Barnes Center at 315.443.8000, while faculty and staff should reach out to their primary care providers.
To maintain a healthy environment, individuals are advised to stay home if experiencing COVID-like symptoms, wear a mask if feeling unwell, and practice good hygiene habits such as covering coughs and sneezes, frequent handwashing, and disinfecting surfaces regularly.
Ramesh Raina, Professor in the Department of Biology, College of Arts and Sciences, expressed appreciation for the community's cooperation and commitment to a safe and healthy environment, emphasizing the importance of following the new public health guidance.
The University urges everyone to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure the well-being of all community members. For more information on public health guidance, visit the CDC website.
Wishing everyone a successful end to the spring semester.
Sincerely,
Ramesh Raina
