The Sustainability Management department at Syracuse University is gearing up for a series of events to celebrate Earth Month in April. According to a recent announcement, students and staff are invited to participate in various activities aimed at promoting sustainable initiatives on campus.
One of the highlights includes a presentation on Bee Campus USA at Bird Library, where students from Professor Patrick Penfield’s green supply chain class collaborated with the Sustainability Management team.
The month-long celebration will kick off with Grocery Bingo on April 3 at Maxwell Auditorium, where students can win a bag of groceries as a prize. The event is a collaboration between Sustainability Management, SUNY ESF, and Hendricks Chapel, and is open to all Syracuse University and ESF students.
Another event on April 10 and 17 invites volunteers to join Sustainability Management in Pete’s Giving Garden on South Campus. Participants will help prepare gardening beds for planting seeds and seedlings, with a focus on cold-weather crops like broccoli and cauliflower.
On April 24, a tabling event at Bird Library will focus on the importance of bats as pollinators. Sustainability Management student interns will provide information on building bat houses and distribute seeds from Pete’s Giving Garden and the Bee Campus USA Garden.
Furthermore, on April 25, there will be a tabling event outside Schine Student Center to educate the campus community on the importance of composting. The event will also offer guidance on proper disposal methods and provide pots for replanting.
Additionally, a virtual event on April 29 will address Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Strategies, highlighting the University's efforts to track emissions and implement energy efficiency projects.
As a reminder, Earth Day falls on April 22, and Sustainability Management is actively working towards Syracuse University's goal of carbon neutrality by 2032. Those interested in getting involved with Sustainability Management are encouraged to visit their website for more information.
