Huey Hsiao Joins School of Education as Assistant Dean for Student Success

Huey Hsiao is set to enhance student success and belonging at Syracuse University as the School of Education’s new assistant dean for student success. With over 20 years of experience in various higher education roles, Hsiao will lead the Office of Academic and Student Services, overseeing key areas such as recruitment, advising, career services, and leadership initiatives.

SOE Dean Kelly Chandler-Olcott expressed excitement about Hsiao's return, stating, “Huey Hsiao is well known on this campus as a staunch advocate for students and a sterling colleague. He has deep institutional knowledge and has collaborated with our school in numerous capacities over the years. We can’t wait to have him on our team.”

Hsiao's most recent position was at Cornell University, where he served as Kent G. Sheng ’78 Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Asian and Asian American Center. During his time there, Hsiao established programs promoting personal growth and leadership development for students. Prior to his role at Cornell, Hsiao spent 16 years at Syracuse University, holding positions such as associate director of multicultural affairs and director of the Kessler Scholars Program.

Hsiao's impressive career also includes roles at the Council on International Educational Exchange and teaching experience in China. He holds a diverse educational background, including a bachelor’s degree in biology, an MBA, and a Diversity and Inclusion Certificate.

With a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to student success, Huey Hsiao's appointment as assistant dean for student success at Syracuse University's School of Education is poised to positively impact the academic journey of students and promote a culture of inclusivity and support.
