In a recent study conducted by doctoral students ParKer Bryant and Aren Burnside at the Lender Center for Social Justice, it was revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) plays a significant role in society beyond its well-known applications like the chatbot ChatGPT. The research, conducted under the guidance of Mona Bhan, professor of anthropology at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, aimed to explore the impact of AI technologies on communities and issues of social justice.
Bryant, who has a background in education and is pursuing her doctorate in literacy education, expressed the importance of using data to shape educational policies that benefit students. Burnside, a Ph.D. student in anthropology, shared his aspiration to become a professor and his interest in teaching. Both students discovered the complex ways in which AI technologies influence people and communities during their research.
The culmination of their findings will be presented at the Lender Fellows Symposium on Friday, March 22. This symposium will provide a platform for Bryant, Burnside, and their peers to share their insights on how AI interacts with society in multifaceted ways, shedding light on new perspectives that may influence future discussions on artificial intelligence and social justice.
