Mona Bhan, the Lender Center for Social Justice faculty fellow, is set to present her research findings on artificial intelligence weaponry at the upcoming symposium titled “DeCoded Vision: Land, Bodies and AI in Syracuse.” The event, scheduled for March 22 at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center, will feature Bhan and her student fellows discussing the impact of AI systems on various aspects of society.
According to Bhan, "AI systems can transform conceptions of autonomy, accountability, human rights and justice." The symposium aims to delve into how AI technology is influencing industry, workforce training, community development policies, and everyday activities such as policing and technology use in social contexts. Bhan and her team will also shed light on how AI is contributing to the "Syracuse Surge," an initiative aimed at enhancing technology education, job training, and new industries in the city and region.
The student fellows who will be presenting their research alongside Bhan include ParKer Bryant, Aren Burnside, Nadia Lyngdoh-Sommer, Cheryl Olanga, and Anna Terzaghi. Each student brings a unique perspective from their respective fields of study, ranging from literacy education to computer science and anthropology.
In anticipation of the symposium, Bhan provided a glimpse into the key findings of their research in an SU News Q&A. The event is open to the campus community, with registration required for attendance.
