Syracuse, NY-  On June 18, 2023, at 10:35 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported fire at 2505 Midland Ave. Firefighters from Station 8 (S. Salina St.) arrived on the scene less than 3 minutes later and found a two-and-a-half-story, two-family home with a large volume of fire showing on the exterior in the rear. A signal ‘99’ was transmitted, and firefighters began to fight the fire.

Crews dragged hoses to the rear of the house and extinguished a large amount of fire on the exterior of the home. With that fire knocked down, they noticed fire on the first floor and moved their hoses inside to complete extinguishment while other firefighters searched the home for any trapped victims. The bulk of the fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes, and searches were negative. Firefighters then transitioned to an overhaul operation, where they check for fire spread by opening holes in walls and ceilings in affected areas. The fire was declared completely out after approximately 30 minutes. Firefighters remained on the scene to remove smoke and products of combustion from the building.

Syracuse Fire Investigators were on the scene, working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. There were no injuries reported to civilians or to fire personnel. The home sustained fire damage to the exterior in the rear, as well as fire, smoke, and water damage on the first floor. This fire displaced five occupants. The American Red Cross was assisting them.

A total of 37 fire personnel responded to this scene, including command and support staff. Syracuse Fire Department Ambulance, Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, National Grid, and The American Red Cross also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, SPD, AMR, National Grid, and the Red Cross.
