Syracuse, NY- On June 11, 2023, at 5:58 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported fire at 122 Albert Terrace, on the City’s South Side. Firefighters from Station 1 (Adams St.) arrived on the scene just over two minutes later to find heavy smoke coming from windows on the first and second floor of the two-story brick building. A signal ‘99’ was transmitted, and firefighters went to work.
Firefighters from Engine 1, along with additional arriving units, stretched hoses into the building. Crews had to force open a locked door to gain access. Thick smoke completely obscured visibility on both floors of the residence as firefighters searched for the source of the fire, as well as for any trapped victims. The fire was located in the first-floor kitchen area. Once located, firefighters quickly doused the flames to prevent any further spread. Searches for victims were negative; no occupants were home at the time of the fire.
Syracuse Fire Investigators were on the scene working to determine the cause of the fire, which started in the kitchen. The kitchen sustained fire, smoke, and water damage. Smoke damage was present throughout both floors of the home. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes, although companies were on scene for a little over an hour, as they worked to clear any remaining smoke and other products of combustion. One occupant was displaced by this fire; they were being assisted tonight by the American Red Cross. There were no injuries reported to civilians or to firefighters.
A total of 37 fire personnel, including command and support staff, responded to this fire. Syracuse Fire Department Ambulance, Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, National Grid, and The American Red Cross also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, SPD, AMR, National Grid, and the Red Cross.
