Claudia Tenney appears to be the Congresswoman-elect nearly two months after the Nov. 3 election.
After a protracted count, Tenney announced on Facebook she is confident in her win over incumbent U.S. Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D-Utica) in the 22nd Congressional District
“Throughout this long process, we have fought to ensure that every legal vote is counted,” Tenney said on Facebook. “Now that every undisputed ballot has been counted twice, we are still in the lead. This process has exposed a very flawed electoral system that needs to be fixed.”
As of press time, Tenney was leading by 29 votes, but the vote is yet to be certified.
Tenney stopped short of declaring victory, instead saying she is confident the process will ultimately result in her winning the seat.
“We remain confident that once the contested ballots are reviewed by the court and the facts accurately applied according to the law, I will be declared the winner, certified, seated, and head to Congress to serve all the people of New York’s 22nd District. I look forward to resuming my compassionate advocacy on behalf of our region,” Tenney said.
Tenney had 155,862 votes to Brindisi’s 155,833 as of last count.
