Charles W. Beach, a notable alumnus of Syracuse University and a successful entrepreneur, passed away on February 22, 2025, at the age of 88. An influential figure in the field of opto-electronics, Beach founded C.W. Beach Co. Inc., which remains a leader among manufacturers' representatives focusing on high technology component solutions. This family-run business continues to operate in Jamesville, New York, headed by his son David.

"Through his service and philanthropy, Charlie demonstrated his enduring support of higher education and Syracuse University," stated Chancellor Kent Syverud. Beach was a voting trustee of Syracuse University from 1991 to 2007 and continued to contribute as a life trustee, particularly through the board's Academic Affairs Committee.

Beyond his business endeavors, Beach made significant contributions to the Syracuse community. He was a founding member of InterFaith Works of Syracuse and served as president of multiple organizations including the United Methodist Foundation Inc., the Vera House Foundation, Elmcrest Children’s Center, and Syracuse Rotary. His efforts garnered recognition, such as the Person of Achievement award from The Post-Standard in 2003 and the Citizen of the Year award in 2010 from Temple Adath Yeshurun. Additionally, he was honored in 1991 as philanthropist of the year by the Central New York chapter of the National Society of Fund-Raising Executives.

His commitment to service began at a young age, as he served as class president in both elementary and high school. Despite an early interest in professional baseball cut short by polio, Beach devoted his life to service and leadership.

Beach is survived by his children, Karen, Marilyn, and David, as well as seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
