Crouse Health Foundation has been awarded a $25,000 Health Equity Innovation Award by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. The funding will support Crouse Health's program, 'Standing in the Gap – Enhancing Maternal Health Experiences,' which aims to improve maternal health for marginalized communities across 14 counties.

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield encouraged organizations to apply for awards focused on reducing health disparities and improving equity among underserved populations affected by various disparities, including mental and maternal health. The initiative seeks to enhance physical and mental health, reduce social inequalities in healthcare, and ensure access to necessary services.

The 'Standing in the Gap' program is designed to enhance maternal health experiences within historically marginalized communities served by Crouse Health. Sequoia Kemp, Founder & CEO of Doula 4 a Queen, expressed enthusiasm about implementing the program: “Doula 4 a Queen is excited to implement our program, ‘Standing in the Gap’ aimed to enhance staff relations with community-based doulas and improve maternal health experiences at Crouse Health as both organizations work together to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity in our region.”

Kathleen Miller-Murphy, Director of Women’s Health Integration and Community Engagement at Crouse Health, acknowledged the significance of the award: “We are grateful to receive this Health Equity Innovation Award from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. This funding will allow us to make a significant impact on the health of our community by improving birth equity and providing much-needed support to expectant families.”
