As the year comes to an end, a community has shown notable kindness and generosity during this holiday season. Through charity, volunteering, and offering help, their collective efforts have made a significant impact. This embodies the essence of the Christmas season.

Local leaders and organizations have collaborated on projects such as "Tithe My Shoes" and "Stockings For Veterans" charity drives. These initiatives have become holiday traditions for many in the area, with donations increasing annually.

The "Tithe My Shoe" drive provides footwear to children and families in need. This year, it collected 43,120 pairs of shoes, surpassing last year's total of 38,841 pairs. The drive is led locally by Millard “Mudd” Murphy, former mayor of Central Square. Mudd delivered over 900 pairs from Oswego County to Ralph Rotella at Discount Shoe Repair shop. Ralph donates his time to repair shoes for distribution through the Rescue Mission and other organizations.

In collaboration with the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, the "Stockings for Veterans" drive supports veterans by providing care packages and essential items during the holiday season. Acknowledgments go to teachers and students at Mexico High School and Middle School for their contributions, Fulton Lion’s Club for adopting it as a project, Oswego County Clerk Terry Wilbur and his staff for their support.

These efforts remind us of the positive change possible when people unite in generosity. As we celebrate this holiday season, gratitude is extended to everyone supporting charitable work in New York. From local leaders uplifting communities to colleagues in the Legislature and dedicated staff members giving their best daily—your commitment makes a difference.
