New legislation in New York State has prompted the University to expand its benefits, offering paid prenatal leave to all eligible employees working within the state. This includes faculty, staff, student workers, temporary employees, and graduate assistants. The new policy will be effective starting January 1, 2025.

The newly introduced paid prenatal leave is notable for being the first of its kind in the nation. It allows employees to take up to 20 hours of paid leave for healthcare services related to pregnancy within a 52-week period. This benefit is separate from existing sick time available to University employees and does not roll over into the following year.

Further information can be accessed through the HR Paid Prenatal Leave webpage. Any inquiries regarding these changes should be directed to HR Shared Services at 315.443.4042.
