Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh expressed his support for the recent approval by the State Legislature of a 2% hotel room occupancy tax for the City of Syracuse. In a statement released on June 6, 2024, Mayor Walsh emphasized the benefits this tax would bring to the city and its surrounding region.

"Passage of a 2% hotel room tax for Syracuse is good for the City and the region," Walsh stated. He highlighted that this new tax would contribute to building fiscal stability for Syracuse without imposing additional burdens on local taxpayers. According to Walsh, "A stronger Syracuse with a safe, vibrant downtown and convention district will increase tourism and revenue for both the City and the County."

Mayor Walsh extended his gratitude to Assemblyman William Magnarelli and Senator Rachel May for their efforts in advancing the proposal, as well as Assemblymember Pam Hunter for her co-sponsorship. He concluded his statement by urging Governor Kathy Hochul to sign the legislation into law.
