Each summer, students from around the world come to Syracuse University as Fulbright Scholars. International Programs within the College of Professional Studies is currently seeking volunteers to host these scholars for a meal during their stay in Central New York.
The students, who hail from Asia, Africa, Central America, South America, and Eastern Europe, will be attending a four-week pre-academic program on campus to prepare them for full-time graduate study. They will be in Syracuse from July 15 through August 9 before joining graduate, Ph.D., or research programs at universities throughout the U.S. These scholars were chosen for the program due to their exceptional leadership and skills. The training they receive is intended to equip them with tools to address challenges in their home countries upon their return.
These students have limited opportunities to interact with Americans in a relaxed setting but are eager to share their stories and learn about Syracuse and American culture.
Volunteers are asked to provide transportation both from and returning to campus on the day of the agreed-upon meal date. Two to three grantees will be placed together with each host to foster diverse and engaging conversations.
Those interested in participating should contact Jackie Monsour, assistant director of international programs at the College of Professional Studies.
