The University has announced its involvement in the annual “On My Own Time” event, a celebration of local visual arts that showcases the artistic talents of faculty and staff members who create art in their spare time.

Participants are encouraged to display their creativity, with artwork submissions set to be exhibited at Bird Library under the theme “On My Own Time–Celebrating the Artistic Talents of Syracuse University Faculty and Staff.” The exhibition is scheduled to run from May 30 to June 6, allowing colleagues to appreciate and vote for their favorite pieces for the People’s Choice Award.

In addition to the on-campus exhibit, a selection panel comprising adjudicators, including a representative from CNY Arts, will choose pieces for the “On My Own Time Grand Finale” at the Everson Museum of Art from October 5 to November 10. The grand finale will feature a reception on October 10, welcoming artists, University members, and their families and friends.

To be eligible to participate, both full-time and part-time faculty and staff members can submit their original artwork for consideration, with fine arts faculty and professional artists allowed to contribute works outside their usual discipline.

Interested individuals must ensure that their artwork meets specific criteria, including completion within the last three years, originality, and display-readiness with appropriate mounting hardware. Each participant can submit a maximum of three pieces falling under various categories such as painting, drawing, jewelry, photography, sculpture, and more.

To take part, artists are required to register by May 17 and submit their artwork to the Noble Room by May 29. Further details will be provided upon registration, and artists are responsible for timely delivery and collection of their pieces.

For those seeking additional information or willing to volunteer for the Bird Library exhibit, inquiries can be directed to OMOT@syr.edu.
