Members of the University community are invited to engage with the Community Review Board (CRB) and its work through several opportunities this spring by attending its open forum or applying to become a CRB member.

The CRB was created following an independent review of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) by former Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch in 2020-21. It is responsible for reviewing appeals of civilian complaints regarding DPS officer conduct, reviewing and commenting on prospective new DPS policies, procedures, and trainings, reviewing key community-facing functions of DPS, and issuing a public annual report of findings and recommendations to the University community.

During their annual spring open forum on Tuesday, April 2, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Falk College, White Hall, room 335, or online via Zoom, members of the CRB will share the work being completed by the board based on their responsibilities listed above. The forum will also serve as a listening session where members of the campus community can share about their experiences or ask thoughtful questions related to DPS and policing on campus.

Regarding joining the CRB, the board is currently seeking to fill four seats with one undergraduate student, one graduate student, a staff member, and an administrator. Interested individuals can apply by submitting their applications to the designated individuals representing their constituent group.

In an interview with SU News, La’Kesa Allen, Linda Baguma, and Avva Boroujerdi, who are current representatives on the CRB, shared their reasons for joining the board. They expressed their desire to engage collaboratively with other University members, make a difference, represent student voices, and bring insights to important issues/conversations.

For those interested in being part of the CRB and contributing to the review of DPS policies and practices, now is the opportunity to get involved and make a positive impact within the campus community.
